Place Corps at a Glance

It is our mission to cultivate a calling to know, love, and serve our places.

We do this through place-specific transformational learning that equips future local leaders with skills, connections, and resources to thrive in service of their places.

2018

Place Corps began as an initiative between Hawthorne Valley Association, a nonprofit made up of diverse initiatives in Ghent, NY and Good Work Institute, a worker self-directed nonprofit organization in Kingston, NY.

2019

We launched the pilot year in Ghent, NY that attracted a diverse cohort. Grew a team of Progressive educators and built an interdisciplinary curriculum focused on experience in communications, building, regenerative agriculture, and movement practices.

2020

100% graduation of pilot fellowship. We also added an independent summer residency in response to needs of the cohort in light of the pandemic.

2021

Place Corps becomes a 501(c)3 and nurtures roots in the Hudson Valley, growing deep partnerships and planning future programming.

2022
